Setting Up Your Profile

Your profile is how other people see you on Winklr. A complete, thoughtful profile helps you make meaningful connections. Here is how to set everything up.

The post-registration walkthrough

The first time you log in, Winklr will show you a guided walkthrough. This covers the basics to get you started quickly:

  • Welcome slide -- An overview of Winklr's privacy-first approach, how to discover people, and how to chat.
  • Privacy settings -- A prompt to review and adjust your privacy preferences.
  • Complete your profile -- Guidance on filling in your profile details.
  • Set up Personas -- Create your first persona (more on this below).
  • Customise your home button -- Choose whether the centre home button opens Discovery or your Inbox by default.
  • Beta tester info -- Details about the current beta programme.

You can revisit your profile and settings at any time, so do not feel you need to complete everything during the walkthrough.

Profile photo

Tap the photo area at the top of your profile to upload a profile photo. For best results, use a clear, recent photo where your face is visible.

Display name

Your display name is what other users see. It can be up to 30 characters long and auto-saves as you type. Choose something recognisable so people know who they are talking to.

Bio

Write a short bio of up to 300 characters to tell people a bit about yourself. A character counter is displayed as you type, and your text auto-saves so you will not lose your work. This could include your interests, what you are looking for, or a fun fact about yourself.

Status message

Set a temporary status message of up to 40 characters to let people know what you are up to right now. When setting a status, you can choose an expiry timer so it disappears automatically after a set period:

  • 1 hour
  • 6 hours
  • Midnight
  • Or other available durations

Your status message auto-saves as you type.

Show age setting

You can control how your age appears on your profile with the Show Age setting. There are three options:

  • Exact age -- Displays your precise age (e.g. "36").
  • Age range -- Displays a 5-year range based on your age (e.g. "35-40").
  • Hidden -- Your age is not shown on your profile at all.

Personas

Personas let you express different sides of yourself. Your profile has a Personas tab where you can create one or more personas, each with:

  • Type -- Choose from Social, Fitness, Dating, or Professional to signal what kind of connection you are looking for.
  • Name -- Give your persona a name.
  • Bio -- Write a short description for this persona.
  • Tags -- Browse available interest tags and set each one to one of three states:
    • None (default) -- No preference.
    • Interested -- You are into this.
    • Avoid -- You would rather not.

You can create multiple personas to reflect different aspects of your life. For example, you might have a Dating persona with romantic interests and a Fitness persona focused on finding workout partners.

Under the Socials tab on your profile, you can add links to your other social media accounts. Winklr currently supports:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • X (formerly Twitter)
  • LinkedIn
  • Snapchat
  • TikTok
  • YouTube

Adding social links is entirely optional and gives other users a way to learn more about you outside of Winklr.

Tips for a great profile

  1. Be authentic -- Use your own photos and write honestly about yourself.
  2. Keep it positive -- Focus on what you enjoy and what you are looking for.
  3. Use personas -- Create at least one persona so people can see what kind of connections interest you.
  4. Add a status -- A status message makes your profile feel active and gives people a conversation starter.
  5. Update regularly -- Keep your profile fresh with recent photos and an up-to-date bio.
